Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML)
The Atlantic Oceanographic and Meteorological Laboratory (AOML) is one of the Oceanic and Atmospheric Research (OAR) Facilities of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). The mission of AOML is to conduct a basic and applied research program in oceanography, tropical meteorology, atmospheric and oceanic chemistry, and acoustics. The program seeks to understand the physical characteristics and processes of the ocean and the atmosphere, both separately and as a coupled system.Navigating this website can be a little confusing and Adobe Acrobat is required at unexpected moments. But you will find introductory material on the website as well as more extensive PDF overviews about:
- Ocean and Climate
- Coastal and Regional Environments
- Hurricanes
Also find links to the AOML,/cite> research divisions in Hurricanes, Physical Oceanography, and Ocean and Chemistry. In the Spotlight contains several interesting articles about such topics as coral reefs, tropical storm Isidore, and Harris B. Stewart’s 1951 Northern Holiday Expedition.Hidden under Outreach and Public Relations is the Biscayne Bubbles Educational Series, which includes information about the Miami area, a fast growing urban environment in close proximity to fragile coastal ecosystems. The locality of the bay exposes it to a number of seasonal meteorological phenomena, most notably hurricanes. Biscayne Bubbles provides an introduction to issues affecting ecosystems on coastal areas as well as lots of articles about seahorses, coral reefs, jellyfish, mangroves, hurricanes, dolphins, and much more.
