You can find treasures, art, objects, a timeline, historic photos, photos of presidents, videos and photos of presidential funerals, information on and photos of the White House at War, and a section on workers of the White House on this site. Links will take you to sections on the history of the White House, a children’s section, information on visiting the White House, and an overview of how Christmas has been historically celebrated there. This is a website interpreting the White House and its history and the persons and events associated with it. Lessons about the White House and its documents are also on the site. Teaching with primary sources such as documents, artworks, drawings, and photographs is good practice for use in AP History courses to prepare students for document-based questions. While directed at middle and high school students, some lessons designed with primary sources may be adaptable to upper elementary classrooms. Of special interest for young learners will be the bird-watching activity with animated versions of famous Presidents acting as informative tour guides. Also, there are sections with lessons for grades K-3, 4-8, and 9-12. A Music Educator’s Kit and a section titled Art Educators and Students are also inviting. There is a Video Teaching Guide and information on the press and its relationship with the White House, too.
