Museum objects provide valuable information about the emergence of civilization in the Middle East. From Emory University, the Odyssey Online enables users to take a journey and explore the ancient Near East, Egypt, Greece, Rome, and 19th - 20th century sub-Saharan Africa by using objects. Each section covers daily life, people, mythology, writing, archaeology, death and burial. A section for teachers includes strategies for Teaching with Works of Art and a lesson plan examining the elements of civilization through careful examination of the artifacts from the Near East.
