Postcards from the Road

Making molasses the old-fashioned way. Gospel and bluegrass music playing on the porch of the old general store. Pitching horseshoes, square dancing or attending Coon Dog Day. Even panning for gold- today- in McDowell County, North Carolina. These images, along with the sounds of the people and places visited, are captured by photojournalist Scott Sharpe and published as photo columns on the News and Observer website.
In “Postcards from the Road” Mr. Sharpe provides a glimpse of North Carolina’s past and present. Traveling across the state, he often finds the heart of North Carolina epitomized in the everyday life of small towns and communities. Each story includes text and images but the multimedia slideshow really captures the sense of place.
