North Carolina Teacher Academy
The North Carolina Teacher Academy offers local professional development opportunities to school systems and/or individual schools. Instructional sessions available in 2009-2010 include a variety of topics in the areas of continuous school improvement, mathematics and elementary science curriculum, differentiated instruction and learning, instructional technology, and literacy. The Teacher Academy will also customize workshops in these areas upon request to meet the needs of a school or school system. All staff development consultants are experienced Teacher Academy trainers who are assigned based on location, expertise, and availability.
The session descriptions are found at the Teacher Academy website and are organized by the Teacher Academy professional development standards, which are aligned with the National Staff Development Council’s Standards for Staff Development and are designed to assist schools in outlining school improvement goals. Results-driven, standards-based, and job-embedded professional development is concentrated in five core areas: process, context, content, differentiation, and professional support.
