Professional development offerings
Professional development provided by DPI ranges from small group to large group, workshop to training, state mandated to school requests. Our PD crosses many arenas. We provide PD at the DPI building for curriculum areas. We provide PD to individual school sites through Turn Around High school teams and Assistant teams. We hold many teacher-led workshops and conferences throughout the school year. We hold regular training sessions for all K-12 curriculum areas.
The primary outcome is for teachers to teach, strengthen, or reinforce instructional/curriculum skills and strategies that will have a direct positive impact on the students.
- Workshops typically serve between 21 and 40 educators per session.
- Content is aligned with North Carolina standards for professional development and is tailored to the needs of the requesting school system. Offerings are based on theory, classroom strategies and subject matter content.
- Sessions offered are a combination of lecture and processing activities with time to process the learning with other participants.
- Follow-up activities include an optional evaluation of the professional development session.
- Materials are included in the cost of the workshops.
