LitSite Alaska
LitSite Alaska, created by the Creative Writing Department at the University of Alaska Anchorage and the Alaska Literary Consortium, includes workbooks designed to help teachers design effective assignments in reading and writing. Examples of topics include Reader’s Theater for ESL Students and Newspapers in Education for Middle School Reading. There is also a Peer Work section which indexes examples of student work so aspiring writers can see what others their age have created.
In the section Narrative and Healing, teachers and counselors will find unique and useful ideas for taking advantage of the therapeutic properties of writing and reading. Family Gatherings outlines the role reading and writing have in the gathering and recording of family histories, and Alaska Traditions adds the cultural aspects including folklore and Alaska Native stories.
