Hands on the Land is a national network of field classrooms linking students, teachers and parents to their public lands. Agencies involved with this project are the USDA Forest Service, the National Park Service, the Bureau of Land Management, US Fish and Wildlife, and the Natural Resource Conservation Service.
Hands on the Land provides teaching materials, service learning projects, internet activities, quizzes for students, an ask a specialist forum and more. Student can contribute poetry and essays, artwork and photos, and student-created websites. They can also use the Living Glossary to learn more about key vocabulary terms from amphibian to watershed.
In North Carolina, Hands on the Land member sites are Great Smokey Mountains National Park in Lake Junaluska and the Cradle of Forestry in Pisgah Forest.
