Dedicated to promoting the importance of music, music-making and music education to the general public, the AMC works to build credibility for music and music education, especially at an early age, and to expand that portion of the population that enjoys and makes its own music. In an era of legislative mandates and budget cuts, music education advocacy is critical to the survival of music programs at all levels. The 300 page document called Essential Advocacy Resources for Music is an example of the kinds of resources available to educators, teacher education programs, and concerned parents and school leaders.

The website offers separate sections for schools, educators, parents, students and seniors. Members of this professional organization include the entire music community and individuals and organizations who understand the importance of music and the other arts including performers, educators, manufacturers, retailers, record companies, record stores, technicians, universities, publishers, performing rights organizations and performance groups.
