Worldmapper is a large collection of maps, each relating to a particular subject. These cartograms or density-equalizing maps “re-size each territory according to the variable being mapped.” Using cartograms, you get a totally different world view. The sea is always the same proportion and the countries are color coded so the difference between the land area map and the maps with other variables can be distinguished.

The maps are categorized and subjects range from basic population, education, and health to exports, imports, wealth, poverty, and other topics. From the map index page, click on thumbnails to get a larger view. Maps can also be accessed through the category lists. New maps are in the process of being added to the collection and you can be automatically notified when they are added through the site’s RSS feed.
