Quilt Index
The Quilt Index is a “growing research and reference tool that provides centralized access to documentation on American quilts and quilt-making. The Quilt Index now features images and information for hundreds of documented. Through this comprehensive site, quilts can be viewed by contributing collection or documentation project as well as searched across the collections for patterns, individual quilters, themes, techniques, and many other characteristics.
The completed Quilt Index will be a central resource that incorporates a wide variety of sources and information including (1) images of and documentary information about quilts in public museum and library collections; (2) information about privately held quilts compiled by over 56 state and regional quilt documentation projects in the United States; (3) bibliographies of secondary materials relevant to quilt study; and (4) finding aids developed to assist researchers with locating hard-to-find quilt-related primary and secondary materials in public collections.
The Quilt Index was conceived and developed by The Alliance for American Quilts in partnership with Michigan State University’s MATRIX: The Center for Humane Arts, Letters and Social Sciences Online and the MSU Museum.”
