My Wonderful World

According to a study by the National Geographic Society and Roper Public Affairs and Media, “too many young Americans have a limited understanding of the world.” With the help of a group of 23 corporations, National Geographic has created My Wonderful World to help students improve their geographic knowledge, facilitating their success as global citizens.
My Wonderful World has sections for parents, educators, and kids and teens. Both the Parent and Educator sections offer Action Kits. The Parent Action Kit has tips to bring geography into their child’s life, a school checklist to see how their child’s school is doing in teaching students about the world, student checklists to make sure they are on track, family activities, a wall-size world map, and more.
Educators will find a Global IQ test and online games, activities, Geographic Information Systems (GIS) software, geography-based lesson plans, a global pen pal project, field trip ideas, professional development opportunities, and a Wonderful World newsletter. The site provides links to geography competitions, news, and photographic images, to name just a few.
Kids and Teens also have a Action Kit with a list of Ten Cool Things that they will learn about geography, a Global School Checklist, desktop wallpapers, and a world wall map. Kids and Teens have separate lists of geography links which are age appropriate.
Visitors to the site will be able to test their own “Global IQ”, read the survey, and send emails to their lawmakers stressing the importance of educating students about the world.
