World View - An International Program for Educators
This program was created to “help schools and colleges prepare students to succeed in an interconnected world in which the rules have changed for everyone.” With the collaboration of other University of North Carolina international programs, private university programs, and sponsorship from global businesses, World View is able to provide global studies programs to K-12 and college educators.
Each year, World View sponsors two symposiums, one for K-12 and one for community and four-year college educators, exploring a major topic of global significance. Past years have explored immigration, the new global order, and teaching globalization.
World View also offers two spring seminars, one on a world region, and a second seminar on special immigration and education issues concerning Latinos and the state of North Carolina.
Each June, 35 educators from across the state come to UNC for a residential leadership program. The week-long, intensive study of global issues helps participants plan and implement programs for their students that will increase their global awareness and help both educators and students respond to global challenges.
Every summer, World View leads a study visit to a country or region of the world where many North Carolina educators will not have traveled before. International travel helps educators help their students understand the world in more complex ways and their role in it. In the past, educators have visited China, Spain, Eastern Europe, Mexico, Central America, South Africa, and Russia and Finland.
The World View website provides links to web resources with global perspectives in the areas of English as a Second Language (ESL), immigration, global updates, grant opportunities, and much more. Website recommendations are welcome.
School visits and specialty workshops are also available.
