Scripps Institution of Oceanography
Founded in 1903, this independent biological research laboratory investigates the physical, chemical, biological, geological, and geophysical studies of the oceans. Using research ships, current projects include topography and composition of the ocean bottom, waves and currents, and the flow and interchange of matter between seawater and the ocean bottom or the atmosphere.
The Explorations section of the website looks at conservation efforts that will help protect an overfished and vulnerable species in Shark Tracks. Oceans and Air: The Climate Connection looks at how the climate and the environment will change in the future. Past explorations are also available.
