Thomas Jonathan (Stonewall) Jackson served on the VMI Faculty as Professor of Natural and Experimental Philosophy & Instructor of Artillery from August 1851 until the beginning of the Civil War in April 1861. Virginia Military Institute has a large holding of personal papers which consist mainly of letters concerning professional, personal and domestic matters and date from the pre-Civil War period.
The site also includes a brief chronology of significant events in Stonewall Jackson’s life, the Jackson family genealogy, photographs of Jackson and his family, documents that provide insight into his teaching career, and more.
