Geologic Time - The Story of a Changing Earth
http://paleobiology.si.edu/geotime/
This interactive website explores each eon of the planet Earth’s history beginning with the Hadean Eon, when much of the Earth’s crust was molten, and ending with the Holocene Epoch, the most recent division of Earth history. Each period has an overview section which gives the defining characteristics of the period, information on the plants, animals, and climate of that time. Evidence of the time is shown in images of fossils.
A section on fundamental concepts includes dating methods, Earth processes, and life processes. The dating methods area explains relative and absolute dating methods, paleomagnetics, and geologic time. Earth processes includes plate tectonics, climate change, and ocean circulation. Life Processes looks at life, evolution, extinction, ecology, and studying the history of life. Each concept has references and links to related websites.
