Safe Haven Museum
During World War II, President Franklin Roosevelt offered an invitation of a safe haven for war refugees. 982 men, women, and children made a difficult two week crossing of the Atlantic Ocean only to find themselves in a refugee camp in Oswego, New York. The Safe Haven Museum and Education Center’s mission is to keep the stories of those refugees preserved for generations to come.
The Center’s website has a list of the refugees and a description of their journey to American. The Voices section of the website has first person accounts of what the refugees endured to find a “safe haven” from the Nazis.
