In Search of Myths and Heroes
http://www.pbs.org/mythsandheroes/
This companion site to the Public Broadcasting Service video program of the same name explores four myths or sacred tales of man and the world in which he lives. They may be factual or fictional. The myths explored in this feature include the Queen of Sheba, the earthly paradise of Shangri-La, King Arthur and Jason and the Argonauts.
Each selection has the story, which has been passed down through the ages. And, each myth has an archetype or a universal symbolic pattern that explains the nature of the world and life. In these myths, the Queen of Sheba’s archetype is a woman of power, Shangri-La is a paradise, King Arthur is a hero, and Jason is his quest.
This site also includes a teacher’s guide with lesson plans. Students can take a quiz of the Living Legends to see what they have learned.
