eBird

In an effort to learn more about the distribution and movement patterns of birds across North America, the Cornell Lab of Ornithology and the National Audubon Society have developed this website. Teachers can create a “BirdSource” project for their class to submit observations of birds on the grounds of their school. Through the use of this database, students will learn about birds and the scientific process. They will collect, analyze, and interpret data from their bird-watching. The database is password protected so only the students can enter information about the bird they have seen. In the “View and Explore Data” section, they can make maps, tables and graphs of the data they have submitted as well as summarizing their observations by week, month or year.
Students can also explore the website and see observations submitted by others. They can look for a specific species, look at information logged for a specific location (state, local, or bird conservation region), and explore by means of an interactive map.
