In commemoration of the one hundredth anniversary of the San Francisco earthquake and fire, the Bancroft Library presents this digital exhibit in an effort to bring understanding to this historical event. The exhibit is divided into five rooms and each represents a major theme and tells the story of what happened on April 18, 1906. Relevant maps, photographs, silent film and sounds make up the exhibit to bring the horror of that terrible event to life. The collections can be searched or browsed. There is an interactive map of the city which shows how specific areas were affected by the earthquake and subsequent fire. A 360 degree panoramic photograph of the aftermath allows the viewer to see the destruction. Exhibit photographs may be enlarged for easier viewing and there is also a feature that allows the photograph to be printed.
