PEARL World Youth News

Daniel Pearl was a journalist for the Wall Street Journal in 2002 when he was kidnapped while on assignment in Pakistan and murdered by terrorist. He was a gifted writer and musician who “dedicated his life to bringing joy and understanding to the world.” The Daniel Pearl Foundation has joined iEARN to create PEARL World Youth News. This initiative helps secondary students to become international correspondents for school publications.
Students take an online training and certification course and then may begin writing on issues which they select. Their work which may be in the areas of news, features, entertainment, music and performing arts is submitted to three sets of schools in Iran, Pakistan and Uzbekistan, where it is edited. The work is then posted on PEARL World Youth News by their managing editor. Work should be unbiased and written in respect for diverse viewpoints. It is the hope of the site that this work will “broaden cross-cultural understanding and provide an important global youth perspective.”
