The National Railway Museum of the United Kingdom provides panoramas, “exhiblets”, and photographs “which use the museum’s collections to describe important events, discoveries, and personalities in science and technology.”Here you will discover many different models of locomotives throughout history including the Coppernob, the Duchess of Hamilton, the Mallard, and the Agenoria--complete with image, vital statistics, and background information.In the panoramas area users can take virtual tours of the museum, the Great Hall containing a unique display of history-makers and record breakers, a period station which contains a wide variety of carriages and wagons, the footplate of a locomotive, and the interior of Mallard, the world’s fastest steam engine.The Exhiblets include (but are not limited to) The History of Railway Photography, Railway Posters, Shinkansen (Japan’s Bullet Train) and railway advertising.Visit the education section to download a Magnet Mania document filled with activities that will encourage students to experiment with floating ring magnets and paper clips to demonstrate attraction and repulsion, make an electromagnet, and investigate the Maglev train technology.
