The Center for Science Education
The Space Sciences Laboratory at the University of California at Berkeley researches physical, biological, engineering, and social sciences. Its outreach program, the Center for Science Education develops projects and programs for “K-12 educators, students, science museums, diverse cultural groups, and the general public.”
Programs for educators include Eye on the Sky, Sun-Earth Connection Education Forum, and Science Education Gateway.
Eye on the Sky is an elementary school program which focuses on the integration of science and literacy provides “engaging inquiry-based and hands-on science activities developed and tested by UC Berkeley educators and scientists.” All lessons are aligned with the national standards and teach students about the Sun-Earth system.
The Science Education Gateway or SEGway is a program which promotes science literacy through innovative teaching resources and professional development. The site included lesson plans, activities, images, animations, and movies. Professional development can be obtained through workshops at conferences and conventions.
The Sun-Earth Education forum is a partnership with NASA which provides “unique and compelling teaching and learning experiences that will improve science literacy, spark an interest in careers in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM).”
