DNA from the Beginning
DNA from the Beginning is an animated primer on the basics of DNA, genes, and heredity from Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory. This textbook-like resource is organized around key concepts: classical genetics, molecules of genetics, and genetic organization and control. The science behind each concept is explained with animation, image galleries, video interviews, problems, biographies, and links.A few of the topics that are explored in the classical genetics chapter are gene dominance, Mendel’s laws, mitosis, and chromosomes. The Molecules of Genetics chapter addresses such subjects as RNA, proteins, bacteria and viruses, mutations, evolution, and the DNA ladder. And finally, the genetic organization and control chapter includes information about DNA packaging, mitochondrial DNA, “junk” DNA, jumping genes, and gene expression.
