The Educators section of the site is organized into four main categories: lesson plans, service learning, the enrichment project, and framework and standards.
Lesson plans are organized into grade ranges, global region, and subject area. Each lesson plan is then organized into six key areas: overview, featured reading(s), materials, procedures, extensions, and framework and standards. The extensions element is designed to provide additional ways of incorporating the lesson into the classroom, going beyond the original lesson plan. The framework and standards section outlines what the students ought to remember from the experience and essential questions designed to drive these lessons home.
The service learning section of the site explores “a teaching method that combines academic instruction, meaningful service, and critical reflective thinking to enhance learning and civic responsibility.” To accomplish this, there are links to: project ideas, planning a service learning project, and tips from Peace Corps volunteers.
The enrichment project contains links to Peace Corps sites that provide in-depth looks at regions and countries provided by the experiences of past and present Peace Corps volunteers. One project, Culture Matters Workbook, was created as part of the training for Peace Corps volunteers and was designed to teach about different cultures, communicating across language (and other) barriers, and adjusting to a new culture. The project includes: full chapters and chapter summaries, integration of the readings into the classroom environment, and a teacher’s guide. The framework and standards explains how the Peace Corps relates their lesson plans and resources to frameworks and standards.
