MENC - The National Association for Music Education
“Founded in 1907 with 69 members, MENC’s membership has grown to nearly 130,000. Its mission is to advance music education as a profession and to ensure that every child in America has access to a balanced, sequential, high-quality education that includes music as a core subject of study.”
MENC has developed national standards for music education. It also has publish over 100 books, videos, and compact discs, as well as magazines and journals.
Members of MENC can ask questions of mentor musicians on the Mentor Message Board. Mentors offer expert advice in the areas of band, orchestra, chorus, and general music.
MENC holds conferences biannually for its members. It “offers an exciting four-day schedule of events, including workshops, performances, lectures, industry exhibits, and more.” Each state holds its own conference. North Carolina music educators meet annually at the North Carolina Music Educators Association conference.
