The Environmental Protection Agency created the Air Quality Index (AQI) to inform the general public about the air they breathe. It shows how clean or polluted the air is and what the health effects of breathing polluted air can be. The AQI is reported daily for over 300 major cities in the United States. Real-time ozone air maps are updated hourly and cover 46 US states and parts of Canada.
