The Council of the Great City Schools
Founded in 1956, the coalition works to provide a national voice for urban educators as well as a place where teachers can share tips and tricks for classroom management and practices.
The coalition bestows an award at its annual conference recognizing exceptional service by a past or present school superintendent or Board of Education member. The award was founded to pay “tribute to the memory of Richard R. Green, a former chancellor of New York City Public Schools and superintendent of Minneapolis Public Schools.”
