The site is the outgrowth of a series of experiences with teachers and students in the process of integrating literature circles into the current curriculum. Classroom visits included time with Grade 1 through 6 teachers and students.
Literature circles encourage participation through small groups of students intent on discussing amongst themselves their understanding of the assigned text and what they extracted from it. Literature circles deepen the meaning of the reading by being centered on the student’s experience rather than the text and subsequent lectures.
This site provides information on incorporating literature circles by offering structures for literature circles by grade, help with the book selection process, and links to activities. Activities include discussion, written responses, themed literature units, and extension projects.
Certain areas of the site include resources ready for download including ballots for book selection and discussion forms. Links to book list resources are offered, too.
