Brain Power! The NIDA Junior Scientist Program
http://www.drugabuse.gov/JSP/JSP.html
Brain Power was developed to teach elementary level students about the brain and the effects of drugs on the brain. The site is divided into six modules: scientific inquiry, the functions of the four main parts of the brain, neurotransmission, the difference between medicine and drugs, nicotine and addiction to tobacco, and a wrap-up of all the modules with an assessment of what the students have learned. Modules can be downloaded in PDF format or ordered through the NCADI clearinghouse. Included in the project are a video, written materials, a teacher’s guide for each module, and a parent’s newsletter.
