This site tells the stories of three scientific discoveries: fission, pulsar, and superconductivity. The story of nuclear fission is told on a large, complex scale, while the detection of the first optical pulsar is a more personal, individualized tale. These primar source stories include audio files of the discovering scientists telling their personal stories, along with photographs and text. All three stories are accompanied by a teacher’s guide. These guides include activities for middle and high school students, which are labeled according to whether they are discussion exercises, investigation questions, or research questions. The guides are aligned with national standards and also include additional websites and readings.
