The Life Cycle of a Mineral Deposit—A Teacher’s Guide for Hands-On Mineral Education Activities
http://pubs.usgs.gov/gip/2005/17/
Dave Frank, John Galloway, and Ken Assmus have authored this guide for K-12 teachers to use in the classroom when teaching students about geology, plate tectonics, and mineral resources. It explains how mineral resources are found, extracted, processed, and used. Graphs, colorful illustrations, and photographs help to explain the “rock cycle” and land reclamation after mineral extraction. Ten activity based exercises include a required list of materials, instructions, discussion questions, and summaries of the activities. The guide is also available for purchase in CD-ROM format.
