Mixing In Math
Although this site was created specifically for after school programs, the resources that it provides can also be used in the classroom. The site offers quick and easy ways to incorporate math into children’s daily lives, offering ideas that use daily routines such as sports, snack time, arts and crafts, and games as springboards for learning about math concepts and skills. Some of the skills that Mixing in Math helps to build include telling time, comparing sizes, recording data, and using math vocabulary. Activities include using clocks and calendars, figuring lengths and widths, gathering and organizing fun facts about everyday things, and adding shapes and numbers to stories and skits. The section At Home With Math offers resources and ideas for parents to use with their children to help build math skills during everyday home activities.
