BBC Skillswise

The original purpose of this site is to help adults gain basic language and math skills, but the content of the site can easily be used with other age groups as well. Since adults are the intended audience, it may be especially helpful with older children who are in need of remediation or for use in a parent outreach program. The site is broken into three major sections: Words, Numbers, and the Tutor Center. The Words and Numbers sections contain the most useful information and activities for teachers to use with their students. Each of these two sections contains mini lessons on various topics, activities for practicing new skills, quizzes, and games. The Words segment contains information on areas such as grammar, reading, vocabulary, listening, spelling, and writing. The Math segment is divided into sections concerning whole numbers; measures, shape and space; fractions, decimals, and percentages; and handling data. Since it is a British site, some spellings of words are different from spellings in the United States, but that is a minimal difficulty compared to the usefulness of the content provided.
