Chronicling America: Historic American Newspapers
http://www.loc.gov/chroniclingamerica/
Currently the National Digital Newspaper Program is building a digital database of newspapers dating between 1900 through 1910. This “prototype Website” has selected newspapers based on historical events of that period. The database can be searched by state or by selecting a newspaper. Visitors to the site can also select a specific year or date range. One unique feature is a zoom box which will allow the viewer to zoom in on a specific section of the newspaper. Select the zoom box feature and draw a box with the mouse over the selected section and click. This site also offers a text version and PDF version. A print feature is also available. So far, California, Florida, Kentucky, New York, Utah, and Virginia papers from 1900-1910 have been digitized. Over the next 20 years, newspapers from all the states and U.S. territories published between 1836 and 1922 will be digitized.
