Chemical Heritage Foundation
The Chemical Heritage Foundation was founded in 1980 by a group of scientists and industrialists who wanted to create a national history center devoted to the chemical and molecular sciences and industries. Since that time, the Chemical Heritage Foundation (CHF) has made it their mission to maintain a world-class collection of materials that document the history and heritage of the chemical and molecular sciences, technologies, and industries, to encourage research in CHF collections, and to advance an understanding of the role of the chemical and molecular sciences, technologies, and industries in shaping society. To these ends, they have created this wonderful site to accompany the physical space of the center, located in Pennsylvania. At the site of the CHF, there is a wide array of information available. In the section Explore Chemical History, the site makes chemistry interesting by providing information on famous chemists, milestones in molecular science, how chemistry plays a part in every day life, and more. This information is presented in the form of timelines, biographies, oral histories, and other formats. Under their section for Collections and Exhibits, you can find links to online exhibits on topics such as the history of the chemistry set, women in chemistry, the biotechnology hall of fame, and electrochemical artifacts. The CHF oral history collection is also accessible here, and can be searched by name, sponsoring agency, or keyword. The site also includes classroom resources, such as links to Science Alive! activities, information on chemical achievers, and WebQuests.
