Write a Brilliant Pantomime With Billy & Wolfy
http://mellersh.org/nick/panto.htm
This compact site is written by a pantomime script author and gives a lighthearted description of how to write pantomimes, including the basic rules, choosing a story, creating characters and scenes, using music, and staging productions specifically for children. The guide is interspersed with humorous “comments” from William Shakespeare (Billy) and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (Wolfy). The guide is intended for an adult audience, and includes some comments that would not be appropriate for younger students, so you will want to read it yourself and then adapt it for student use. It also includes three sample scripts.
If you are looking for a different, perhaps more fun and entertaining way to incorporate writing into the classroom, you may want to consider having students write and perform pantomimes. While the traditional English pantomime is a Christmas entertainment based on a fairy tale, the concept of pantomime can easily be expanded to encompass different formats and themes. In addition to fairy tales, other types of stories such as myths, classic literature, or even a class novel could be used as the basis for a pantomime.
