National Fire Prevention Week
Fire Prevention Week was created by the National Fire Protection Association to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. It is celebrated every year during the month of October. On the National Fire Prevention Week website, teachers, students, and families can find information about the history of Fire Prevention Week, NFPA programs such as Learn Not to Burn and Test Your Smoke Alarms, and home safety activities including practicing home escape plans and sleepover safety tips. There are lesson plans and activities for teachers, online learning games for kids, and stories about successful escapes from home fires.
The site links to a website about “Sparky”, for younger children, with information, activities, games and more.
