This site accompanies Afghanistan Unveiled, a film created by the first team of women video journalists to be trained in Afghanistan. These women traveled to rural areas of the country to record individuals’ stories about their lives. From the home page, first take a look at The Film, which gives background information and a film overview. To learn more about the women who created the film, look in the Behind the Scenes segment, which contains biographies of the women filmmakers and a Q&A feature. The section on Women in Afghanistan provides information on women’s rights and a time line of major events in the country. Further sources for information are provided in the Learn More page. There is also an interactive feature, The Journey, with information and video clips that show more about the filmmakers’ journey and the places they visited. To view the lesson plans created for this film, visit the For Educators page. Both lesson plans have stated learning objectives, links to standards, thorough instructions, assessment, and extension activities. The lesson plans do revolve around watching the entire film, although they could potentially be adapted. The film can be ordered for a fee. When navigating the site, avoid using the tabs in the top bar of the page, as they will take you back to the Independent Lens home. Use the links within the main body of the page.
