The “Earthquake Hazards Program” is a website provided by the U.S. Geological Survey. At “Earthquake Central,” you can locate the most current earthquakes in the world and access up-to-date information from a clickable globe that provides location, magnitude,date, time, latitude/longitude and depth of each earthquake. Maps and lists are available to show earthquakes from the past 7 days as well as earthquakes from the last 8 to 30 days. Also find information about historical earthquakes and large or significant earthquakes of the year.A section entitled “About Earthquakes” provides a wide variety of earthquake information including facts and terms, FAQs, photo collections and animations for earth terms and concepts. The “Earthquakes for Kids” page contains puzzles, games, science fair projects, earthquake facts and pictures, the science of earthquakes and the opportunity to “Ask a Geologist” an earthquake question. “Earthquakes for Students” is filled with intriguing links leading to flash animations of earthquake terms and concepts, hands-on activities, descriptions, graphics, PowerPoint slideshows, earthquake accounts by famous people and many others.Teachers will find a variety of earthquake photos for their classes,slideshows, and links to educational websites with lesson plans and learning activities related to earthquakes and plate tectonics.
