A lesson plan for grades K and 2
In this lesson, the second in an eight-part unit from Illuminations titled “Traveling Along: Measuring and Mapping,” students create and use maps as ways of showing information and using geometric concepts, spatial visualization, spatial memory, and other spatial relationships. They find, describe, name, and interpret direction and distance using appropriate directional and positional vocabulary. Students develop reasoning skills by defending the choices they make.
Students will be able to:
- apply spatial and visualization skills
- describe how to navigate a map of their meal
- use problem-solving and reasoning skills by defending choices for their meal
