In this EconEdLink lesson, students learn how they and family members fulfill the roles of producers and consumers at home and in their community. They begin by exploring the goods and services that people use and they identify those that require the payment of money. This lesson works well as a follow-up to the EconEdLink lesson titled “Simple Simon Meets a Producer.” This lesson incorporates an interactive student activity and links to a variety of web resources.

Social Studies (2003)

Grade 1

  • Goal 6: The learner will apply basic economic concepts to home, school, and the community.
    • Objective 6.04: Explore community services that are provided by the government and other agencies.
    • Objective 6.07: Recognize that all families produce and consume goods and services.

Grade 2

  • Goal 7: The learner will apply basic economic concepts and evaluate the use of economic resources within communities.
    • Objective 7.01: Distinguish between producers and consumers and identify ways people are both producers and consumers.
    • Objective 7.02: Distinguish between goods produced and services provided in communities.

Kindergarten
