A lesson plan for grade 2 Mathematics
This lesson, the first of an eight-part unit from Illuminations titled “Multiplying Meanings,” is introduced with the children’s book Two Ways to Count to Ten. The lesson focuses on two models for multiplication—skip counting and repeated addition. Students generate products in several ways, including making unifix cube trains and using calculators and hundreds boards. They record their investigations by drawing pictures for their portfolio.
