A lesson plan for grades 6–8 Mathematics
This lesson, the last of a three-part unit from Illuminations titled “Ideas With Food,” focuses on student organization, preparation, and presentation of some simple foods as a way to apply various mathematical concepts, with problem-solving techniques being a central theme. Students apply previous learning to decision-making that involves purchasing and preparing at least a five-item menu. Students then share the cost of that meal among class members, proportionate to the amount of food ordered by each member.
