A lesson plan for grades 9–12 Mathematics
In this lesson, the second of a four-part unit from Illuminations titled “Using Algebra and Discrete Mathematics to Investigate Population Changes in a Trout Pond” students use iteration, recursion, and algebra to model and analyze a changing fish population. They use an interactive spreadsheet application included on the website) to investigate their models. This lesson is a good illustration of how recursive functions are used to model population change over time.
