This ARTSEDGE lesson introduces the expanding and condensing properties of air masses and the unequal heating of Earth as the force behind the wind. Students write a report on a topic related to wind and weather patterns and create a dance to demonstrate their understanding of weather patterns. This resource includes links to student materials and related websites.

Dance Arts Education (2001)

Grade 1

  • Goal 3: The learner will understand that dance can create and communicate meaning.
    • Objective 3.01: Show ideas, feelings, and stories through dance movement.

Grade 2

    • Objective 2.05: Discuss and determine how energy from the sun warms the land, air and water.

Kindergarten

  • Goal 2: The learner will make observations and build an understanding of weather concepts.
    • Objective 2.02: Identify different weather features including:
      • Precipitation.
      • Wind.
      • Temperature.
      • Cloud cover
    • Objective 2.03: Identify types of precipitation, changes in wind, force, direction and sky conditions.
