A lesson plan for grades 9–12 Mathematics
In this lesson, one of a nine-part unit from Illuminations titled “Interpreting the ‘Real-Life’ Meaning of Graphical Representations of Data,” students select their own real-life data to plot and interpret. Interpreting the meaning of the slope and y-intercept of their least squares regression lines will help reinforce the concepts introduced in Lessons One and Two of this Unit Plan. The students are then given the opportunity to display their work. This lesson incorporates an interactive regression line applet.
It is assumed that students have some experience with graphing and interpreting linear data (see Lessons One and Two of this unit).
