A lesson plan for grades K–1 Mathematics and Science
In this Science NetLinks lesson, students are introduced to the concept of units of measurement. Students will first measure with the idea of units in mind and then be challenged to consider why it is important to have standardized units of measurement. Then they will measure with standardized units and compare results with one another.

- Goal 2: Measurement - The learner will use non-standard units of measure and tell time.
- Objective 2.01: For given objects:
- Select an attribute (length, capacity, mass) to measure (use non-standard units).
- Develop strategies to estimate size.
- Compare, using appropriate language, with respect to the attribute selected.
