A lesson plan for grades K–2 Information Skills and Social Studies
The purpose of this lesson is to identify those materials that can be recycled and possible uses for them. It is strongly recommended that this lesson be used as a follow-up to the K-2 lesson on Materials and Manufacturing, in which students investigate the properties of building materials in the context of the story of The Three Little Pigs. In this lesson, students continue to investigate the properties and uses of different materials. It is not too early for students in grades K-2 to wonder about what happens when things are thrown away. (see essay) In this investigation, students will be introduced to the idea that some materials can be recycled. They will investigate the types of materials that can be reused, as well as potential uses for each type of recyclable material. Please note that the following print resource is recommended for this lesson: The Three Little Pigs
