A lesson plan for grades 3–5 English Language Arts
In this ReadWriteThink lesson, students take the perspectives of various characters in a story and think beyond the written text. Students act as the assigned characters and speak aloud, expressing their interpretations of the characters’ thoughts and feelings using visual cues from the illustrations and the information in the text. In this lesson, based on Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day, students view the story in an adapted online version with the original illustrations and take on the role of Alexander and other characters in the story to describe their thoughts and feelings.
